5 Must-Know Tips To Produce Incredible AI-Assisted Writing

AI writing assistants can produce a thousand words of content in seconds. However, quantity does not indicate quality, and certain steps must be taken to maintain incredible AI-assisted output.

The world of content creation is always evolving. We’ve come a long way from notepads and typewriters, dictaphones and printed Microsoft Word documents. We’re in the age of AI, and artificially intelligent writing assistants are no longer a concept straight from a sci-fi movie. They’re real.

And highly accessible to boot.

HyperWrite is a prime example of these AI-powered writing assistants, capable of producing massive quantities of human-level textual content. Other popular platforms all have their benefits, but all still produce writing. With just a few key prompts, they can produce thousands of words in minutes.

However, despite AI’s speed and intuition, its output quality remains a widely discussed topic. There’s good writing and there’s great writing. And if you want AI to help you produce the latter, you should know how to work with AI to optimize the results.

Here are five tried-and-tested tips for producing fantastic content with the help of AI.

Tip #1: Know the AI Tool’s Capabilities & Limitations

In traditional art, you wouldn't use a paintbrush to sculpt a clay figure. In cooking, you wouldn’t use a frying pan to chop vegetables. And if you need to hang a painting, you should not be using a drill to hammer in the nails.

AI technology is exactly the same. You have various AI-powered platforms available to create different kinds of content. Understanding what they can and can’t do can help you properly utilize them to achieve the best possible outcome.

As an AI assistant with a focus on writing, HyperWrite doesn't generate images or videos like other platforms. But it does offer more in terms of drafting, writing, researching, and refining written content. It also has a more human tone and can emulate nuances and subtleties in writing.

The key to producing fantastic AI-assisted writing is to match the right AI tool to your specific writing needs. Understanding each tool's unique abilities will help you beef up a blog post, create compelling captions, or polish your professional prose in the most efficient and effective way possible.

Tip #2: Specify Use & Clear Intention in the Prompts

Being specific with writing prompts is key to getting the results you want. Instead of just asking for a generic essay or paragraph, it’s best to tell the AI tool exactly what you need. Do you want an academic paper? A business proposal? A social media caption? A blog post?

Telling the AI the intended use value of the content you’re asking it to generate provides it with a template it can follow. HyperWrite, for instance, will write a business proposal with a more formal tone and data-driven focus. But if asked to write a social media caption, it will adopt a more succinct and engaging style.

It will also have different writing approaches for an academic paper, a blog post, and a product review.

If you tell the AI what the content is meant to be, it also saves you from having to specify a word count. HyperWrite (and possibly most AI writing assistants) will assume that an academic paper should be longer than a social media caption or that a product review should be shorter than a blog post.

Remember that AI technologies are trained using large datasets. Whatever AI platform you’re using has been fed dozens (if not hundreds) of examples of different content forms: essays, feature articles, how-to guides, LinkedIn posts, video scripts, social media captions … you name it, the AI has seen it. So let it know what you’re trying to write.

Chances are, it’s read and analyzed more examples of it than you have.

Tip #3: Provide Samples Whenever Possible

If you can’t describe the tone, voice, or writing style you want the AI to achieve, it’s best to give specific examples. Instead of telling the AI writing assistant to “be funny” or “have a sense of humor,” you can include links to two or three articles that have the level of wit or wordplay you want to mimic.

HyperWrite can adapt its writing style to follow or closely resemble other styles. So can other AI chatbots like Ryter and Gemini. If the program you’re using has this specific feature, I recommend taking full advantage of it. It won’t perfectly capture the style you want immediately but keep at it.

Remember; AI can still be trained–even if it’s already been programmed and published!

Tip #4: Generate & Use Outlines

This is something I swear by. Instead of asking AI to write a whole length of text from scratch, ask it to first generate an outline. Then, feed the outline back to the AI and instruct the program to create content using the outline as a guide.

Yes, it’s repetitive. But it’s also incredibly useful – for several reasons:

  • Streamlines the writing process. I don’t have to stop in the middle of writing to think about what the next section will be or where I should insert a piece of information. It’s already been laid out.
  • Saves time on organization. I need my research organized before I write so that I don’t miss important details like names, dates, and statistics. Since AI now sorts all the relevant data for me, the hours I would have spent arranging my notes, I can now spend on writing and refining the content.
  • Saves time on editing. I’ve found that starting with a template minimizes the time I spend editing and refining the final copy. Since the outline helps me visualize how the content will flow, I can make changes and adjustments where necessary before the copy is fully written. If I'm satisfied with the outline, I'm less likely to make major changes to the text later on.

All I have to do is give HyperWrite’s Expert Writing Assistant my notes and research, as well as detailed instructions on what I want (see Tip #2). Then I ask it to create a suitable outline using the information I’ve provided.

In seconds, it gives me a logical and well-structured blueprint for a promising piece of content.

Of course, I still need to go in and refine the outline – rearrange some points, combine ideas, add specific examples, etc. But starting with an AI-generated roadmap is so much better (and so much more efficient) than starting with a blank page.

I also get much better results when I give HyperWrite a template to work with compared to when I ask it to write something from scratch. With the former, I’m able to focus on refining the big picture–the AI program is more than capable of handling the details. This approach creates a cohesive length of text that feels natural and well-thought-out.

Tip #5: Always Review & Rewrite the Final Draft

Although AI writing tools can be incredibly helpful, always use them as a starting point–not a finished product. AI shouldn’t replace human content; it should supplement it.

That’s why it’s called AI-assisted writing.

So when using AI to generate content, always edit the final copy. Add your unique voice, perspective, and style to make the text your own. Humanize it by making sure it sounds relatable and genuine. Adjust the phrasing and replace some words to make it reflect your way of speaking and writing.

Even if you're not a natural writer, take the time to paraphrase sections, read the draft out loud, and rewrite any parts that don't sound authentic to you.

For example, the AI might write; "these signs are indicative of generative AI.” If you personally wouldn’t use the term “indicative,” rewrite that line to turn it into something you’d actually say.

“These signs tell me an AI was used to create this content,” for instance. Or "these signs point to the use of generative AI."

Whatever content AI gives you, always – and I mean, always – edit it before you put it out there. View whatever it gives you as a suggestion; you will always have the final say. So tailor whatever it’s written to match your personal tone and style. This ensures your content is truthful, engaging, and personable.

Bonus Tip #6: Insert Personal Anecdotes & Context When Applicable

Here’s a bonus tip to elevate your content: make it relatable.

If your intended audience can’t relate to the content you make for them, it doesn’t matter how beautifully written it is. It doesn’t matter how well-structured or how professionally formatted your writing is. If it doesn’t resonate with the reader, it hasn’t fulfilled its purpose.

So to make your writing engaging, don't just share ideas – share your experiences. Personal anecdotes are a powerful way to connect with your audience. They make your content feel authentic and relatable. They can illustrate your perspective better than any well-worded argument.

AI still struggles with properly conveying the emotional nuance needed to share an anecdote. Even when prompted, the “human” experiences AI concocts feel shallow and stilted at best.

So it’s best to let the emotional core of the story come from you. Your unique experience will add that human touch that makes writing truly memorable. Don't worry about perfect spelling or grammar, either. Focus on honest, genuine storytelling. You can always run your anecdotes through HyperWrite after to get the details cleaned up.

Without a doubt, AI tools can be used to streamline writing processes. They’re quick, they’re efficient, and they understand the nuance of human language. But their output quality remains to be seen.

Utilize AI to Streamline the Writing Process & Ultimately Optimize AI Output

For casual writers and professionals alike, AI writing assistants are a godsend. They can speed up our research process, help us overcome writer's block, and generate fresh content ideas every day. But just like any tool, mastering AI for writing requires a specific approach.

You can’t expect outstanding results if you’re just doing what everyone else is doing.

If you really want to produce AI-assisted gems, you need to do more than just enter prompts and edit output. Thankfully, AI tools like HyperWrite can help you practice the tips we’ve outlined in this article until you perfect them.
